Halloween recipesSPOOKY ICE MOLDS

A spooky ice mold can add a creepy ambience to your Halloween punch bowl! You can use a multitude of things as molds to make your sculpture!

You can use a decorative cake pan such as a tombstone, skull or bat if you are using a large punch bowl. Fill mold half full with punch or colored water and float it in your punch bowl. Doing this will keep your punch chilled and not water it down as the ice melts. If you do use water, be sure and add some food coloring to give it a creepy color.

You can find brain, hand and heart gelatin molds around this time of year that will make great molds for ice to add to your punch bowl as well! They are usually made from a hard plastic so it's easy to set in the freezer. Fill as instructed above. Remember to fill only half way as water expands when it freezes and you don't want it overflowing the mold or pan!

You can also make frozen hands using plastic food handlers gloves. Fill with liquid and tie off the open end. Lay on a flat surface such as a plate to freeze. Just remove the plastic glove and drop it in your punch bowl! You can use a contrasting punch or colored water for the hand, like a green hand in red punch. Be sure and use clear plastic food handlers gloves only, most latex gloves are powdered inside and will be toxic to guests, also you never know who might have an allergy to latex which will transfer to the ice.

Be sure and keep the mold frozen until use!! To remove from a pan or gelatin mold, run pan side of mold (not the ice side) under cool water to release the ice mold.

SPECIAL EFFECTS FOR YOUR PUNCH BOWL
The creepy people at Halloween Online came up with idea to add a very spooky effect to the way punch is displayed. It does require that you have a clear punch bowl so that the light will shine up through the punch, but it looks great. All you do is set a
PumpkinLight unit to display the desired color and/or effect and place your clear punch bowl on top of it. Check out the article here.
